In short, AMAZING. This is the way to describe the 15th annual season Czech Music Camp Fine Arts Camps Europe which took place from July 21 to August 6, 2012 in Horni Jeleni, Czech Republic. 190 young musicians and 37 group leaders from 13 different countries participated in this event. The season opened with Hana Prerov Youth Band that performed in our camp after 14 years. It was our first guest performing group when we started our camp in 1997. Many band players take part in our program especially Symphonic Band which was conducted by Jon Waite (Wisconsin, U.S.) who was also in charge of Jazz Band elective program. For the first time in the Czech Republic came to conduct Ms. Valerie Palmieri, who has extensive experience in conducting youth orchestras in the U.S. state of Michigan. Both symphonic ensembles worked on their separate program as well as shared pieces. Probably the strongest experience was a concert in the Holy Trinity Church to commemorate the founder ČHTM Fr. Walter Marek.
Besides regular concerts we could also organiye some performances in town, especially jazz band, clarinets and flutes performing in the square, recorders and choir elective performing in the Home for Elderly in Horni Jeleni. Many people in town also enjoyed the marching band in Horni Jeleni just before the memorial concert in the church.
Big thanks go to our supporters, especially Town of Horni Jeleni, Pardubice Region. Horni Jeleni Public School hosted our piano department.
Although before the start of the season there was a great concern about the future of the music camp because of declining support from public budgets, the quality of this season, well-functioning new staff team and a growing interest in this project abroad give this project hope of survival. If everything goes well, the 16th season will begin on July 19, 2012.
